Turn Back Train

tonight's last train outside of home
window seat catches my skin when raining
there's steel under the glass
in my chair, I breathe a knot

wheels on railroad tracks
their creaking takes me the wrong way
miles pass not only just by hours

miles and miles of sky
dark slowly fades behind the moon
the last citylight goes off
still I never saw as the sun came up

I've taken many trains though none since my twenties. Depending on the times of day, trains can arouse sentiments and emotions that are indeed poetic as though trains were a metaphor for something. I really enjoyed this, heard it, felt its motion, was a bit cold but I brought a sweater.

In Malta we have no trains, but I used trains in Italy and London. A lovely poem, dear Paige.

A journey by train is always exciting. Through the window we can watch the receding landscape behind and the looming sky above.

Excellent metaphoric imagery, PH. You’ve woven so many different elements with miles and time. Steel & glass are good juxtapositions to use. This line has changed, has it not ? “still I never saw as the sun came up” to Now I see.. (Long train journeys do take us deep into subconscious. I wrote many poems on trains, then threw them through the window) Have a beautiful day, Paige.

I sense you don't want to go any further, there is no home, only more vagabonding. You really stretched my imagination, dear Paige~
