The Gallipoli Campaign of 1915-16, also known as the Battle of Gallipoli or the Dardanelles Campaign, was an unsuccessful attempt by the Allied Powers to control the sea route from Europe to Russia during World War I. The Turks won the battle and lost the war.
‘Gallimaufry’ is a confused jumble of things. The word is derived from ‘gallant’ = finely dressed or with pleasure and ‘mafrer’ = to gorge oneself. It also pertains to an array of different opinions.
Wars still confuse me, but then I am an incorrigible idealist.
