Truth From Stray Facts
Teeth and tongue goodly neighbours
Once argued with words adverse,
Said teeth: we keep keen vigil
To spare you from all evil,
Tongue said, no, it’s my restraint,
Watch, you’re safe if I’m silent.
Just then a bully passed by,
The tongue taunted the tuff guy.
He hit back, knocking all teeth,
With it fell teeth’s boast, all myth.
Tongue smiled, tell me who protects,
Ye should know truth from stray facts.
Words can well be like flowers,
Or careless ploughs, earth-mowers,
If they’re lethal as to kill,
Soothing as well as to heal,
No one knows this truth better
Than poets... that words matter.
