Mother's hands
On her infant's face
Soothing hurts
With cherishing grace
Righting wrongs
Back into place

Lending a shoulder
On which to cry
Encouraging tots
To give one more try
Hugs when you don't
Have the answer why

Pinning up hair
For the dance rehearsals
Playing the game
of mom/kid reversal
Balming the wounds
When gossip is personal

Seeing her choose
Her life-long partner
Giving her up
At the wedding altar
