Transistors

Vacuum tubes made a radio too big. The huge size was something I didn't dig. That created a problem that was easy to see. I could not carry a radio around with me. Besides, the tubes burned out too frequently. They also wasted big amounts of electricity. For convenience sake, something had to be done. Out came a new invention, and the battle was won. With transistors, radios were made in a much smaller size. Portability was something we could now realize. With one hand, we could hold a receiver to our ear. There were many broadcasting AM stations to hear. So went the everyday course of history. That was just a little tidbit of my memory.

Robert, Very interesting solution in this poem. How far we've come from waiting for the TV to 'warm up' and occasionally adjust the vertical hold. So glad that record players are still around. -Richard

Well said Robert but I found with transisters the batteries died too soon. It's better today. Good one Robert. God Bless, JB

There is something to be said about pocket size, but then there is something to be said about originals of the past, made more durable then todays. Thank you for sharing this lovely piece of history , poet friend

And a great titbit it is too. Bought my first in 1960, Robert. Great poetry wave after wave of nostalgia.

Hi Robert, I have a transistor radio. Came in handy when power goes out. Boom Boes..guess what? hSN is selling them. You know, they were loud. But compared to people glued to androids and not talking to one another, I really don't know what is worse! Know we have girlfriends named Alexa? I don't dig this age. Prefer people to Androids.
