barn swallows return from seasons I've never known to bring me new wings - my eyes scan the old dirt road searching for a summer lost

carrie, i've yet to see a bad poem from you! this is of your usual high standard; i like the idea of swallows returning "to bring me new wings"; it's a poignant one, yet hopeful at the same time - congrats on your win! :)

I knew i had seen this one before and looking down at my old comment, I can see that I loved it when it appeared in someone else's contest. You were very wise to choose one I had already considered excellent. It IS excellent and it's exactly the kind of poem that emulates what tanka is all about. Congrats in my contest.(also I have written of barn swallows myself, and I love that bird and I love the sad nostalgia this evokes).

this is excellent tanka writing, carrie. I fully expect to see it near the top if it is for Chris' contest. I still have not located the winning page of his LAST contest, however, My contest area says I got a 6th place from him, but I can't find the freaking winners' list!!!
