Tragedy Strikes a Double Blow
Tragedy Strikes a Double Blow
By Elton Camp
Crying, “Woe, oh woe is me”
Scores of mournful faces I see
What dire calamity did befall
To elicit this distressed call?
The Crimson Tide fell from grace
Lost its hope of getting first place
And to make dire matters worse
Auburn lovers also must curse
Football fanatics suffer strife
About what’s important in life
I’m glad the fates did choose
That both of them should lose
An unseemly display not to see
As supporters shout with glee
Coaches as virtual gods elevated
Rather now, they may be hated
Cries of outrage soon to spring
“Winning is the only thing!”
Importance put in the wrong place
Reality, fanatics must now face
Tide and Tigers alike in defeat
Humble pie, fanatics have to eat
But a lesson they won’t learn
Sports worship thus to spurn
About Alabama this is written
But in all states folks are smitten
People should be deeply ashamed
As sports worshipers to be named
