Too Beautiful to Resist

I wandered through the quiet wood, Where twilight’s hush was laid— A single rose with petals spun In veils of silken shade. Its beauty called with voice so soft, A tremor in the air— A melody that sought my soul, Too sweet for me to bear. I felt my heart a tender leaf In evening’s gentle song— And all the dreams I never dared Seemed suddenly less wrong. Its blush was like a secret flame That flickered in my breast, A warmth too beautiful to hold, Too gentle to resist. So there I stood with quiet breath, While dusk drew close around— A single rose, a single soul, No other sound nor bound. O Beauty, deep and infinite, Your voice I can’t dismiss— I yield my heart to tender night, Too beautiful to resist.
