Today's Children
When I was a child
Bogey men were not real; they are now.
When I was a child, we’d never heard of sex traffic rings.
We do now.
When I was a child the whole neighborhood
Corrected us, scolded us, spanked us, and kept us safe.
They don’t now.
Children are on their own more than ever before.
They wear their house keys around their necks, probably leaving their doors unlocked.
Many are alone, and lonely,
They feel unloved, unappreciated, and un-listened to.
Today’s child is vulnerable.
Easy pickings for a bogey man
Who knows exactly what to say, either in person or online
All he has to do is give them a bit of attention,
Put away your electronics, parents.
Your children are waiting.
