Today's Children

When I was a child Bogey men were not real; they are now. When I was a child, we’d never heard of sex traffic rings. We do now. When I was a child the whole neighborhood Corrected us, scolded us, spanked us, and kept us safe. They don’t now. Children are on their own more than ever before. They wear their house keys around their necks, probably leaving their doors unlocked. Many are alone, and lonely, They feel unloved, unappreciated, and un-listened to. Today’s child is vulnerable. Easy pickings for a bogey man Who knows exactly what to say, either in person or online All he has to do is give them a bit of attention, Put away your electronics, parents. Your children are waiting.

Much-needed advice. We've given our children electronic monsters, we idiots. (Kind of glad I resisted the trend now). Great write! :) Gershon

Powerful message, Caren. These "easy pickings" need serious protection and attention. Strong poem.

Thank you, Line. I do my best to try and keep my children safe, and they are ALL my children.

Thank you, Silent One. I think part of it has been happening, but when I was a young I was blissfully unaware of such horrors.

Yes, Tom, I have to agree, and I am guilty as charged some days, choosing my own I-pad over my real live people.
