you conquered cancer I discovered poetry - we’re both truly blessed! Today is the 4th anniversary of my husband’s cancer surgery. On 25th November 2013 I wrote ‘Splendid Isolation’, which was the first poem I’d written since my childhood. I’ve come a long way with my poetry since I wrote that poem but it’s one poem I would never edit. https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/splendid_isolation_543657 25th November 2017

I would never have thought my husband's cancer would bring me such joy Anne Lise! Maybe I was always destined to write poetry as it is in my mother's side of the family, but it just took the cancer to kick start me writing my first poem:-) hugs Jan xx

I liked this and the quote by Robert Frost, sadly some do not appreciate both your poem and Robert Frosts words! Some dont get Choka either what can we do?

Thanks so much for reading that poem. It would benefit from editing, but that was my first poem and was written from the heart at the most difficult day of my married life and I will never change a word of it. Being in the 'mixed' accommodation was horrid and when I checked out I suggested they made it single sex - they said they'd never thought of it before! I would lock my bedroom door dash to the kitchen put my meal in the microwave dash back to the room and then dash back when it was ready. It was so so stressful. I wrote a few poems a friend posted them on FB and another lady I knew kept telling me to join soup, but it took a month of 'badgering' before I plucked up courage to post:-) hugs jan xx
