To Winter
Winter waits at the edge of the world
wanting summer’s ending to unfurl,
standing in the shadows like a shy girl
yearning for the signal to give it a twirl
Daylight wanders into evening shades
and the autumn warmth begins to fade
Soon snowflakes before your nose parade
on the trees, sidewalks and deep in glades.
Mother Nature’s dressed white like a bride.
Her comeliness is reason for her pride.
We’ll take her harshness all in stride.
In sleds and skates, we’ll simply glide.
Welcome winter in all the distress.
The cold cleans the air of all germie mess.
It may not be the season that’s the best
but it calls to the spirit to slow and rest.
