To the Finish

I did what I was born to do Didn't go as far Didn't reach as many Didn't see as much I did what I was born to do No excuses, complaints, or regrets No looking back but straight ahead No short of this or the lack of that I did what I was born to do I knew it just past the age of 14 I knew what but not how or when I only knew that God spoke within I did what I was born to do I positioned myself to go for the finish I pursued my course for excellence I prepared myself for readiness I did what I was born to do I stood the test by doing my best I stood for the right and against the rest I reached for the high bar, never settling for less I did what I was born to do It didn't mean I had to quit when forced to sit I learned to beware of stress and always reassess Life isn't always a song; sometimes we have to reset I did what I was born to do There were times I wish that I could talk more and think less There were times early on that I wanted to be just perfect That all changed after a series of reality checks and rejects I did what I was born to do There were many questions sometimes about whether I shoulda I wont mention the times that I questioned if I really coulda At times there were self-debates about the what if I woulda I did what I was born to do There were certain great ones that I wanted to be like I wanted to be like Billy and Bob, Carlis and Martin, Mark and Mary Never wanted to be Ike, and decided I'm best at being the best me In my heart, I believe that when I come to the finish, The Lord will say, "Well done thou good and faithful servant" Yes, it's true; I did what I was born to do 71520PSCtest, If This Was My Last Poetry Contest, Silent One.2P
