To Fly Away a Butterfly
I am lost in a sea of stones
my hair a flowing river streaming in the dark
oh, the drums of time roll . . .
leaving scars on the roadmap of my soul
as rain clouds sail across the dark sky
I am chained to this dead place forever
oh, my cup used to be filled to the rim with joy
and there still remains a sweetness in the dregs of sorrow
death is a guest who came unbidden over, and over
and left my happiness a ravaged garden
weather-stained and decaying with years
from my hand a single red rose drops its petals
to flutter away . . .
my life is a dream of sadness
I am a girl running lost in a storm of grief
as daggers pierce my heart
my one wish- to fly away a butterfly
