To Bee

To Bee or not to Bee?
Oh, not that line again!
I can hear the buzz:
At least try to bee original!
Got to lose that bee-be thing --
Catchy, but a bit scratchy
(Same-old Same-old grove) –
Cute, honeyed words, sugary,
Seductive syrup for shameless
Tongues and cords.
Metaphorically speaking,
We all prefer sweet lick-text
As opposed to biting – tasting
Far more exciting. Perhaps time
To re-comb my hive
Of writing? – bee a bit more
Less refraining, or get used to
Stinging complaining….

"Catchy, but a bit scratchy" This made me grin. I used the Shakespearean quote, 'to be or not to be' very often. I like the way you have changed this cliched expression into a honeyed version. Dear Joe, you always think differently.

I was grinning then out loud laughing when I read 're-comb.' Love the cleverness of this good time read. I can't remember the contest details so I can't speak to that, but this really is imagination on display which means you turned young while writing it. Did you know that?

Hi CayCay; I was not consciously aware of the contest, but maybe did read other works mentioning bees, and it just seemed like a great topic to turn my creative hive loose. Ah, to bee young again! Love it. You made my day. Thank you.

Stinging complaining. A great spinoff from the bee metaphor. I enjoyed this

Haha yes... originality is now lost ~ to be or not to be ... what a line, shakey left, I bet the most catchy lines are the ones that come to us naturally and we write them down: i tend to get most lines when sleeping! Awful when I cant remember them when I wake up Its always so good to read you dear Jo Hope you are doing well Sending you light always

I keep writing material alongside the bed, and have had what you describe happen to me enough times in the past, now fearing to lose a promising thought, I have trained myself to sit-up and jot down quickly any such notion as if functioning in 2 different dimensions at the same time. And then back to sleep. Mystical experience in a sense.

A playful exploration of creativity and originality, Joe. The poem cleverly uses wordplay with a humorous take on the familiar phrase, sparking a smile.

Hi Sotto; thank you. So pleased you got a smile out of this one. I like sweets, says my waistline.

And that don't cost anything! You would think more folks would use them.... Thank you, Anne. You are very kind. Blessings.
