To Be a Good Grandma

To be a good grandma, who me?
What do I see?
Through rose-hued glasses
or molasses?
For when the kids are very small
to them, I’m tall,
I’m lots of fun;
but comes, I’m done.
Like a giraffe, I must stretch my neck,
for little peck,
gain perspective,
retrospective.
I’m wandering
and pondering,
what did I give
great-progeny to help them live,
be wise, feel loved;
of God beloved?
Fall in each arm;
hope my prayers hold them, keep from harm,
Make skies of blue,
little askew.
When youth is through,
will they be good grandparents, too?

Oh gosh, so sweet Kim. I wonder too, I hope they will continue on the paths of the Lord. I have a granddaughter who is not choosing to follow Him, but getting into so much trouble at school and out of school, she scares me. I pray for all of them and all of my children, but she keeps me awake at night. I pray she returns to the Lord and for her protection! May He bless our families to know Him and follow Him. I pray for my unborn future generations as well, I think my great grandparents did too.

I like your musings on grandchildren... Do any of us have a clue what to do?? In the end, we do or best, and trust in God Almighty. ~ gw

So much, the word of God says about grandparenting, like teach our children and our children’s children. Prayer is very important. We are not just the fun grandparent but with wisdom we pass down the things of God to the generations. Just like our children, we have to let them grow up…how hard that is! Thank you, Gershon…yes, trust in God Almighty…Amen!

I have 6 children (counting spouses), and 7 grandchildren at the moment. I to wonder how they will do as parents and grandparents themselves. They're all Christians, so they have a head start of many, but the deceiver will be after them just like he was after me. God is good and I place them in His care. My prayer is His will is revealed to each of them, and that they acknowledge Him and His way. Nice poem, Kim. Bill

what thoughtful and well constructed words. I, too, wonder if my stepchildren and their children will be good grandparents.

We begin to give thought to those we will one day leave behind. We care about the next generations. Thankyou, Sara!

Oh My Dear Kim, you could not have said it better. As the grandfather of three granddaughters and a fourth grandchild on the way in August, I wonder what my role should be in their lives and whether I will help create godly grandchildren who will carry on the legacy. Right now, I am their play toy because I am on the floor playing dolls, reading books, wrestling, tickling and playing my guitar for them. We will pray for each other to be the best grandparents ever. Summer Blessings, Dear Kim, Daniel
