To a Mother
TO A MOTHER
She guided me - not unalike a beacon to a ship
Caught me should I stumble or should I ever trip
Cast beside me like a shadow - she loyally remained
Oh how she fought for me kept my dignity retained
Stood there patiently while after my dreams I chase
Into her arms encased within a warm loving embrace
She kept my plate full - all my clothes and shoes clean
Accepted all my sins - never to me was she ever mean
Then the years passed - I filled her with less worry
As here I was - Child in arms now in less of a hurry
In her own loneliness still standing within my shadow
Her faced etched - her hidden pain - for all on show
Every now and then - I would see her deep in thought
Had she done enough for me in everything she taught
No longer the child - but a woman her pain I could see
Wondering if now - she would have enough faith in me
So one day I can guide her unalike a beacon to a ship
Catch her should she stumble or she should ever trip
Beside her like a shadow - my loyalty to her remained
Fight for her - keep for her dignity to be ever retained
So into my arms encased within a warm loving embrace
She can leave this world for a dream only she can chase
