Time Flies Away

It's funny how time flies away. "Like the blink of an eye" my father did say. I know now what he meant. My youth and beauty are all spent. Where did that time go? It is now I that is home alone. From my nest my kids have flown. I am my mother, my hands show. As I type and am looking down, at these puffy old hands I frown. Could these hands be mine? It's funny how time flies away. I gave him my skinniest years I'd say. That X husband of mine. But flying time also brings wisdom. We at last can escape from the prison of youthful fears and wasted tears. Roll on time but slow down please. I have still so much to do and see. From fear of the future release me.

Congrats on your third place. Not only can we feel the time passing as you describe it, but one can look down and see the face, hands and ask the same thing - where did the time go? God bless, RP.

So much wisdom in this poem, Jean, and unfortunately, the best of it comes with age. Nicely written, and congratulations on your podium win in this Premiere Contest! Hugs, Sandra

Although I realise my poems are all about Me...Me...Me, I like to think they strike a cord with others on life's journey. Like you Ilene.

I'm not sure who you are looking at in the mirror Jean, but your beauty has not left you. Besides, were I given a choice, I would choose wisdom over beauty every time. I really loved the poem!

That's so sweet of you to say Daniel. If I am honest, I have never been so comfortable as with the body I have now. And, my mother had beautiful hands.
