Time Be Good
Do we cease trying good as time goes by?
to love and be loved back as humans should
or is love ageless lost within a simple sigh
begging to be let loose if it could?
Time stand still bestowing gifting grace
letting radiance remain as age is shy
to chase the tiny wrinkle from the face
and keep the sparkle youthful in the eye
Years, tears, fears near
as aches and pains make residence in bones.
Faces, places, spaces clear
keepsakes of the hopes that we have known.
Looking at ourselves what do we see?
The mirrored image of a day gone passed?
A broken-down jalopy of a beast
or a person that has got the stuff that lasts?
How often do we wrestle with the what has been
instead of just accepting what is now?
What happens to our person as familiar friend
lost within the passing of the hours.
Time be good to older people of the land.
Their peace and joy of life have just begun.
Slow their moments to a motionless stand
as they try not to falter but hold on.
