Those Funny Bones
Once upon a time when I was a child
I’d play very hard, I was really wild
I would ride my bike all over the street
I’d do cartwheels for the children I’d meet.
Then one day I fell down, hit my elbow
I shouldn’t have tried to put on a show
I started to cry, ran to my mother
She began to smile, seemed not to bother.
She told me “Now dry your eyes for you see
It’s called a funny bone, just like your knee
If you hit one you will begin to smile
And it won’t hurt after a little while.”
Now that I’m old when my funny bone’s hit
It’s hard to smile for it hurts quite a bit
But when I think of her words way back then
The tears flow down my cheeks into my grin!
