They Said He'D Be Here

They said he’d be here. I waited Amid the echoes Stained glass shadows Lurking in the apse. Polished gold and silver Marble columns and floors “butt shined” wooden pews An odor of incense Amid an emptiness. They said he’d be here. An old man smiled Said: “be patient, he comes every day”. A child cried In its mother’s arms. She lit a candle. As I left I told the old man: “I don’t think he’s here.” He smiled again saying; “maybe it was your turn to bring him.” John G. Imagery and the thought were well taken. I suppose it all depends how acutely your senses are tuned.

This is why I read poetry…to find gems like this. “Butt shined,” good stuff and loved the ending. John
