the yard felt evil
The yard felt evil,
I could not explain it
Until I turned
And saw the clowns
On a tiny ferris wheel
Turning slowly
They were chanting
In a monotone kind of way
It was the strangest thing I had ever seen
Let’s not trick-or-treat here,
I whispered to my sister
She walked bravely up the porch steps.
I turned to flee
A bony finger grabbed me.
I felt like Gretel.
I screamed as loudly as I ever had.
Feeling foolish when my sister said
“It is a tree branch, silly”.
The clowns grinned
