The Widow's Luck, Part Ii

...Calvin looked extremely confused, then smiled knowingly, said,’I think I can explain this, so please love, come with me.” At first, of course, she did resist, but Calvin plead, and did persist, she left him take her by the wrist, and walk to town briskly. Outside the Dolphin’s Fin tavern they came to a window, Calvin motioned in and spoke up, “There’s something you should know.” She look and saw Calvin atop a table, wasting not a drop, the sight brought her to a full stop, the scene could not be so! “My love, I guess it’s time you know my brother, and my twin. He’s brought my family shame so I just never spoke of him. Jeb’s always been too fond of drink, and with ladies away will slink, he’s fond of raising up a stink, I guess we should go in…” She wasn’t one for the taverns, but now just felt absurd, they had to clear this whole thing up so none thought ill of her. When Jeb saw them, he raised a toast, and of his brother did loudly boast, the whole of that large bar-room host now regretted their words. That was the last time that their love every did run amok, Calvin did raise me as his own, no duty did he shuck. Gave my mother seven more kids, the best things that he ever did, from his side mother never hid, most marveled at her luck. Even Jeb would say as much.
