The Wedding Cake

Lush green vines linking pink florets The couple skating on a crystal lake Sprinkled about with tiny silver dots I paid a fortune for this wedding cake. Each cut a slice and took a big bite The guests all ate what they were able At some point the base completely gone Two tiers crumbled down over the table. I think the disaster portended the future For longevity the marriage was not to see Everyone took everything they wanted My daughter and her child came back to me.

You have quite the imagination! Regardless of the cake, unfortunately this does happen to people. They had such a lovely wedding for my granddaughter, but her husband turned out to be crazy, mean, and controlling. She finally got up the gumption to leave hm. She came back home with two sweet little boys, one of whom is having trouble dealing with it all. So, plus the wedding, they also paid for an expensive divorce!

Yes, Barbara, it does happen. I'm just happy your granddaughter got out of a really bad situation.

Fortunately, it's fiction, Caren. I have no idea where this came from, except I've always wondered what would happen if a wedding cake fell during the reception. It would be such a disaster.

Interesting write. Portents like the wedding cake collapsing are nothing to sneeze at, methinks. Glad your daughter rejoined you, Dad! ~ Gezundheit

(chuckle) You know, I think calamities often foretell greater calamities. Yep, they sure do. Thanks, g.w.

Your poem is so funny. I'm sorry it didn't work out for your daughter, but glad she didn't stay in an unhappy marriage. I'm SURE you paid a fortune for the cake. I have a friend who bakes wedding cakes. :}

Ann, this is fictional, although my daughter has been married several times...I lost count. I wrote about the cake and the poem took over from there. Thanks for your kind, thoughtful comment.
