The Way
A new poem ?
The Way
I stumbled through the darkness
Throughout my living years
Wandering, staggering, running
Possessed by all my fears
I hid amongst the shadows
There I tried to make my home
Yet, never could stay settled
Bound in life to roam
I searched the whole world over
High and low for what life means
As I closed in on the answer
It was never as it seemed
One day a road revealed itself
Appearing different from the rest
I thought I'd found an easy path
But I'd actually found a test
I journeyed without trouble
I ran excitedly in haste
It was the path I had been seeking
I had little time to waste
The newness of adventure
And the dreams that I had planned
Kept me moving onward
I had the future in my hand
But the days grew into months
And still my journey carried on
The excitement faded quickly
And my passion all but gone
The years passed into each other
What could all this mean?
I'd walked and crawled the countless miles
And nothing had I seen
I'd chased my dreams up mountainsides
My hope to the valleys below
Where was this road leading me
My soul, it ached to know
I marched on through the heat and cold
I braved the wind and rain
The closer to my mark I got
The more it felt in vain
When I finally made it to the end
I was back where I began
I was no further than before
The path revealed no plan
Then an inner voice spoke loudly
And I listened to it say
The meaning is in the journey
In the walk of everyday
Contentment is not found
At the end of any road
It's found within your labours
Your joy is in the load.
You don't find peace tomorrow
By wishing for it today
You find it in the here and now
That is the path-the way.
