The Vanity of Wisdom -Ecclesiastes 1: 18

The writer of this old testament book Solomon the son of David so great God gave him a choice of His gift he chose wisdom a choice first rate He trained his heart to be wise be able to be knowledgeable true so never to be caught out at all many would come asking what to do But in lots of wisdom is real sadness for in it is much vanity among men striving for what can't really satisfy it's no better than flying like the Wren Many of mankind seek all knowledge that brings real sorrow in one's heart for it's just like striving after the wind it can't be caught not even a part (Ecclesiastes 1: 18 "For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief.")

I like the ending of Ecclesiastes because the writer realizes in the end that God is the answer. Solomon made some mistakes but don't we all do the same. Some mistakes have a worse effect on ourselves and those we touch than some mistakes we make in life. If each generation could learn from the past generation but each generation makes their own mistakes. Thanks for the visit to my poem "Wondering" I have finished it . Sara

Hi Gordon, I remember during my studies in second year for my degree, The Book of Ecclesiastes and the book of Job were given to us as an assignment. We had to compare the two I like Job, what faith he had when Satan took all away and yet he still praised God. Job was rewarded twice over. Took me back to my studies, I have always thought Ecclesiastes to be a vain but sad man. Well done! A great write. Best wishes Jennifer.

Thanks Jennifer, glad it brought back memories to you and you liked it. I remember before I became a Christian it was the first book in the OT that spoke to when I was reading through the Bible. Have a blessed day, Gordon
