The Trouble With Fear
Sandra was as pliable as she had ever been,
for one guy had told her she was too opinionated.
She was excited about this new date, they had
been computer matched.
Jim liked Chevys. Her family had always driven Fords.
She pretended to like Chevys.
She agreed with his political views, even though
hers were thousands of miles away from his.
She spent the entire date listening to his opinions.
His ideas.
His decisions.
His life.
Jim thought Sandra was a magnificent date.
But he realized he knew nothing about her.
She had shared nothing.
He asked her some questions, but she was hesitant,
almost fearful about giving him any bits of herself.
Jim wondered if she was skittish with all men or just him.
He was afraid to ask her, but since she was a great listener
he asked her for a second date.
Sandra was over the moon with pure happiness.
Then she began to get advice from her family.
Don’t ruin it this time. Don’t be too bossy. Don’t whine.
Jim had been her fifteenth online date, and he was the only guy who had asked
her for a second one.
She finally called him up and told him it would not work out.
Fear kept her from knowing the love of her life.
Jim felt sad.
Unfortunately, fear kept him from asking why.
