The Train of Passing Time

I ride the train of passing time
                                as I lay me down
I hear the wheels begin to churn
              around and ’round and ‘round

A first class ticket to the past
                               my pillow is for me
the stops it makes, unlimited
and oh, the fare is free

My wedding day, a sea of white
            the friends who’d gathered near
My first date, that amusement park
                           my roller coaster fear

Then farther back the train rolls on
                 to grandma’s chocolate cake
I only hope I’ll see her smile
                        before it’s time to wake

No worries, as I often ride
                     love’s vouchers to redeem
I know my journeys truly are
much more than just a dream

Dear Mike, I am enchanted by your exceptional poem. Drifting off to sleep seems to open this wonderful window to reviewing the past. You've captured this experience with soft beauty and poetic finesse. Most of the time, my dream world is comforting and amazing, often featuring visits with loved ones who have passed, and filled with joy! Some I believe to be "much more than just a dream" too! A rich, resonating piece! Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Ah Mike, how beautiful. Dreams are amazing. I had a dream of my dad quite a few years back, it felt so real that I remember it still. I was sad to wake from that dream, but so comforted by it. This is a beautiful poem.
