When I was five years old I found an acorn outside my house. I planted it on a small patch of grass that grew between my sidewalk and the little side street that ran along side my parents house. It eventually grew to be the tallest tree on my street. Now 55 years later, it is still standing and is by far the tallest tree on the street. I drive past it every now and then because I only live about 5 miles away from where I grew up.

I spotted a tiny acorn It was hanging all alone On a tree...along my side walk That grew outside my home It hung all through the summer And it fell off in the fall When all the colored leaves have dropped From that tree that grew so tall The winter's snow had covered it And the wind blew it around The spring's rain came and buried it Two inches in the ground When plants began to blossom Something had come to be Outside my home - next to my side walk There grew a brand new tree

Nature is amazing. That tiny acorn, to become an amazing tree. Your poem captures an innocence and wonder. Really like this, Charlie.

G'day Charles … it's amazing isn't it. From a tiny seed and fifty-five years later a magnificent tree that provides ongoing support for so many lives and autumn beauty for us humans to admire - great story - Lindsay

Thank you so much, Susan.. Yes, the tiny acorn beat the odds! It also beat the odds of not getting trampled on by myself or by one of my six siblings (lol) we were a wild bunch. Warmest wishes my dear friend.. Charlie :)
