The Thousand Mile Stare

How can you prejudge someone with Post Traumatic stress? They're a lot more compassionate than you can guess. Plagued by constant images from their past. Branded by the ignorant, as an outcast. How can they feel sane when they've seen so much madness? How can they smile when they've known only sadness? Have you noticed the Thousand Mile Stare? Why should they open up to a world that doesn't care? How can they cry when they're supposed to be strong? How can they prove they're alright in a reality gone wrong? It is hard to live when they've seen so much death? To fight a battle within until they're last breath. Are you willing to go beyond the lies? Are you afraid to see the truth through their eyes? Have you ever been paralyzed with fear? Who is the real monster here?

It is so tough to live in a battle zone within. I think we would be so surprised to know how many do, and some of them are preschool aged. It is not easy to go beyond the lies, luckily, when we get them really young, sometimes it can be done.

Wow! I admire the direct way, yet very poetic way your poem handles this subject- very close one to my heart... yes, those who have gone through PTSD, do have compassion for others, and can be both giving, and forgiving. Thank you for a brave stance on the subject- inspiring! (((HUGS)))
