The Sun Rises

The sun rises
or the earth lowers...
science has spoiled much for us--
crept into the secret of our dreams,
even tampered with love
something I have lived by
sustained me
when food had become tasteless
and what I drank
made holes in my gut.

Sometimes I wish
all I knew didn't matter
and the rain was just wet
and the sun just warmth

and never the thought
of cancer

Such deep emotions and introspection expressed in your poetic lines Joe as your poem gains momentum and strength to deliver its last powerful line that hit me with the feelings of a poetic punch.. A write that begged me to linger over it.. a beautiful poem my friend! Warmest wishes. ~Susan

Thank you for sharing your precious, intimate and humorous thoughts with me Joe. I'm so happy your health is fine! Your warm, moving and sincere sentiments touch and tickle me-(scratching lines on the inside your coffin till the fingers go:) your gift with words in an endearing and heartfelt combination. I feel honored for the share, my friend..

Hi Susan; first off, health wise I'm fine. But with age, the normal aches and pains associated, problems digesting certain foods I love, use to shovel in defiantly, one does start to think one is not immortal anymore (in this body sense:)). I have lost many loved ones by now, and one does wonder, where, when and how--ouch! When something pops into my head, I write about. I think I will be scratching lines on the inside of my coffin till the fingers go:) Blessings my friend.
