The Story of a Squirrel Who Wouldn'T Share and of a Blue Jay That Did
The Story Of a Squirrel Who Wouldn't Share
And Of a Blue Jay That Did

Near our Pear tree a heap of nuts
I placed upon the ground,
and it came to me as no surprise,
when a backyard squirrel came around.
Before long my eyes caught sight
of one troublesome old Blue Jay,
and from it's perch on a lower limb
it began to squawk, and have it's say.
The squirrel was busy burying pecans
at a pace that only a squirrel could,
and from it's perch fell the Jay,
as I knew it inevitably would.
From another tree a second squirrel
seeing all that now was shaking,
decides that, it too, might come over,
for the nuts seemed for the taking.
But the first squirrel's bark quickly let him know
that this itinerary was not to be,
as it began chasing the second squirrel
around and around and up the tree.
While all this commotion was going on
the crafty old "Blue" was making hay,
"Squirreling away" the greedy squirrel's nuts
for it's own less plentiful day.
By now both squirrels
were so engrossed with their petty little fight
neither seemed to notice that sneaky old Jay
each time a pecan took flight.
Soon the Jay and all the nuts were gone,
and the squirrel's fight had returned to ground.
At last at peace were two hungry squirrel's
but alas, their nuts were not to be found.
Because of selfishness and one squirrel's greed,
for failing to share or get along.
An old Blue Jay had taken their lunch,
for the price of less than his song.
Now there's a moral to all my stories,
this one being, harbor no greed, but always share.
Lest we arise one day and also find,
an uninvited guest has laid our cupboards bare.
