The Sleeping Beast

Sometimes the beast is sleeping Asleep in the night And, then sometimes, without warning And without the morning light It awakes and it lives As it wanders through the night Wanders where it wouldn't go And knows the things it shouldn't know And no lullaby goodnight song Will ease the woken beast It strikes out in anguished pain Taking pleasure in its feast And just when it drifts off Into a much needed sleep Another nightmare rips out its heart And cuts the soul down deep Cries of despair pass the lips Of the beast in tortured pain Close your eyes sweet beast "Tis only the rain Hush a bye, my beast Everything will be fine What is yours will be yours And what is mine will stay mine
