This poem, "The Shipwreck of Love," was inspired by the song "Arianna" from the Michael Men Project album "Made in Moscow." The poem is intended for submission to the Hughes Turner Project Poetry Contest and is best experienced with the inspiring song playing softly in the background.

The poem utilizes free verse and is structured in six quatrains. A deliberate shift in narrative perspective occurs throughout the poem. The first two quatrains employ a third-person narrative, establishing the setting and the initial loss of Arianna. The third and fourth quatrains shift to a second-person perspective, directly addressing the reader and immersing them in the feelings of loss and searching. Finally, the last two quatrains adopt a first-person narrative, expressing the speaker's personal experience of grief and lingering hope. The rhyme scheme also evolves, moving from AABB CCDD in the first two stanzas, to BBAA DDCC in the next two, and finally XXAA BBXX in the last two. This could reflect the shifting focus of the poem.

Listen to poem:
The ship of dreams, a fragile, drifting thing, A tattered sail, where love once took its wing. Arianna gone, a whisper on the breeze, Leaving only echoes of the heart's disease. You search for solace, in the fading light, A lonely figure, lost in endless night. The memory of her laughter, a haunting refrain, A phantom touch, a lingering, sweet pain. I wander aimless, a soul adrift and torn, By shadows clinging, where love was born. The world, a canvas, painted shades of gray, Since she departed, vanished without a trace. We seek solace, but solace turns to dust, A bitter taste of ashes, lost in gust. A flicker of hope, a distant, faint gleam, Perseveres in darkness, a fragile dream. Perhaps someday, our paths will intertwine, And love will bloom, a love truly divine. We wait, and listen, for her soft refrain, To mend the broken, and ease the aching pain. The ship of dreams, a fragile, drifting thing, A tattered sail, where love once took its wing. Arianna gone, a whisper on the breeze, Leaving only echoes of the heart's disease.
