The Second Shadow
THE SECOND SHADOW
The lonely candle of mine in the wind
Flickered in the invading darkness,
In the light of your lamp it could find
The flash of my mind on your face.
The two flames fused to blissfully burn
The gloom in our lives once forlorn,
We heard in our hearts music return
And the intimate tunes ring in unison.
The gleam of your inner light
Made on my life my second shadow
Lie beside mine, never out of sight,
Which was mine, I didn’t know.
When the winds of times turned to squall
Blew out your lamp by my side for years
I saw on me the shroud of darkness fall,
My second shadow dissolved in my tears.
