The Scoundrel's Game

A yearning for affection and romance can cause one’s getting scorched by passions’ flame. Love blooms if it is given a fair chance, but some attempt to play the scoundrel’s game! A tender soul can be bamboozled by the man who has an inner soul of ice. The love that he professes is his lie, and cherishing himself alone - his vice. The one he lured will struggle to maintain her doomed relationship with him; she’s torn! The taste of love once sweet turns into pain, for what she offers is returned with scorn. Abominations always will exist. Take care one's not a scoundrel you have kissed! For Dictionary fun....#1...Delilah's Words! Poetry Contest

A sad reality depicted in a vivid way; rare are gifted poets like you who can express the pain with a cathartic result...Thanks for sharing, dear Andrea!...Helped healing some still bleeding old scars! And above all that, we keep faith; God bless you and your family for a very happy new year! Big hugs, Hanitra

I like that sonnet a lot. Besides haikus I write sonnets sometimes. Actually it was Robert Carson a creative writing teacher that introduce me to haikus and sonnets. I've been hooked on haikus ever since. Thanks for all your comments. Yes, the Nimitz is an aircraft carrier in the United States Navy. I served onboard it right after highschool. Happy New Year!!

Not everyone is a Scoundrel, but a lot of them are. We just have to be careful. Good luck in the contest. Lucilla

Sound advice I'm sure, Andrea. "Scoundrel" sounds like an ominous word! Often paraphrased as dirty rotten scoundrel...seedy scud..oh, yank off their villianous mustaches!!:)) Joking :) No pansy advice happening here. Have missed reading your writes. Love, Mikki

Love em' and leave em' and kick em' to the curb. The soul sucking sleaze bag doesn't understand the verb. :) Forever's fool is just a tool with eyes that ogle and lips that drool. Making love to the man in the mirror. Blindly thinking that he is still cool. Carly Simon knows. :)

OK--you got me! I am laughing because this is really very insightful and cute. I like words like scorched, bamboozled and scoundrel; and you fit them in so easily. Andrea, very seldom do I get a reaction like yours to some of my own work. You really made me feel appreciated. I have read many of your poems and am always in awe of how easy you make this appear. Thank-you.
