The Rows Remember

They do not march now, but they still stand-- shoulder to shoulder in quiet granite lines. Each flag breathes like a memory fluttering in the hush between heartbeats. They are not just names, not just dates-- they are echoes of last letters, mud-heavy boots, songs sung beneath a foreign sky. We walk between them, heads bowed, and feel the weight of freedom we never had to earn. This silence is not empty. It is full-- with sacrifice, with honor, with a debt we can only repay in remembrance.

"feel the weight of freedom we never had to earn..." That's a very deep thought Poetess. In context of the sacrifices, the tombstones, and the personal responsibility that is an immaculate description. There can be noble inspiration through remembrance, which in turn can produce much good...J.A.B.

Justin, your reflection means so much--thank you. That line came from a place of reverence and reckoning, and I’m grateful you felt its weight. Remembrance can be a call to something higher, something more human. Your words remind me why we write these truths.

Thank you, Hilda. Your sincere words resonate deeply with me, and I'm honored that the poem could serve as a tribute to the brave souls we remember. May their sacrifice forever inspire us, and may your own heartfelt reverence continue to echo their legacy.

That means so much, Paige--thank you. In Flanders Fields is such a powerful piece, and to be reminded of it is truly humbling. I’m so glad The Rows Remember resonated with you--it was written straight from the heart.
