Notes About The Poem

Israeli settlers killed a 20-year-old Palestinian-American man in the West Bank, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health and an eyewitness, as settler violence against Palestinians ramps up in the occupied territory.

the price of apartheid

Some in Israel feel they’re quite grand
Only they can hear god’s command
They often recite
Commandments at night
Yet kill and steal Palestine's land

Palestinian piazza
Includes the West Bank and Gaza
Israel's ethnic purge
Might let these sites merge

What a brave write. I also wrote Manny poems on this heart wrenching situation. It makes me cry, make me question are we humans? Or rats

Paghunda, it's unfortunate that we treat each other so badly. We would be much better off if we could settle our differences peacefully. This would require the "haves" to make some sacrifices. This seems difficult when we foster a culture where happiness supposedly depends on wealth. It's a terrible situation.

Such an amazing poem limerick about the intricacies of human interaction and the need for kindness, empathy, and awareness, especially in the setting of strife. It opposes frivolous dialogue with more profound, deep evidence of caring. The poem ends with a critique of the situation In middle-east noting suffering as well as moral consequences.

Thanks SP. The brutality just continues and seems to indicate that the end goal is genocide. See the NYT opinion piece by Omer Bartov from July 17 (two days ago). I'm flattered I wrote this before reading that opinion piece. All rather sad considering who's doing it. Take care.

The price is death of innocence in this case. It starts with religious beliefs man-made-to-order and made up as they go along. I've seen the documentaries some you Must see! Remember Michael Moore? Docu guy, his aim was to unseat the man who slithered into the White House. Well with all this waring you should warn your follower not to promote 'violence' its really what a 'hater' would do, there you have it,. It must be due to all that mental illness you speak of Duke. It's really hysterical ~ Another great piece. Take it easy and I'm with a backup plan, count me in! :)

Hi Anaya, yes Michael Moore did some interesting documentaries on a variety of subjects. He is a character for sure. He and we do abhor violence. I am also pleased to hear you have a backup plan. Part of being whole is taking responsibility for what we do rather than just watching idly while disaster strikes. BTW, there is a column in The New York Times electronic edition today by Dr. Omer Bartov who is a professor of Holocaust and genocide studies at Brown University. He has sadly come to the conclusion that a genocide is taking place in Gaza. It's a bit long, but it backs up what Arthur has been talking about for some time. The article is well worth reading and seems conclusive.

Pardon this comment if you don't find it appropriate, Duke. I am addressing the two who are acting more likes beasts than besties. I'd cage you both in a ring, sans boxing gloves and say, "Go at it," because that's what you both seem to want. Too bad you're continents apart. And some on the site have the nerve to call ME a 'hater.'

That bridge will never be built because some people on the site will always prefer to tear things down, including each other.

Lin, it’s sadly allegorical of conflict in general. How do we achieve peace when our tools and desire for conflict resolution miss the mark? A little compassion and humility go a long way. I’m always very interested to know why people take a certain position. People experience the world in different ways. The environment we have could be wonderful if we give it the love and understanding it deserves while looking at actual facts in order to bridge our differences.

Arthur, FYI there is a guest essay in The New York Times today by Dr. Omer Bartov, who is a professor of Holocaust and genocide studies at Brown University. I think you would like seeing how he backs up what you have been saying for some time. Smiles!!!

Arthur, you're very welcome. The wrongs currently taking place reveal a great deal. It's especially poignant if we remember that Mr. Netanyahu was funneling money to Hamas in order to keep the West Bank and Gaza divided. What's happening now is his "crowning" achievement. Quote from the Jerusalem Times: "For years, the various governments led by Benjamin Netanyahu took an approach that divided power between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank — bringing Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to his knees while making moves that propped up the Hamas terror group." Arthur...isn't some of the ignorance expressed below remarkable? Who are the real jihadists? Violence is never a good solution. It should stop immediately.

No Art, the terms and conditions of this site. All the name calling is a breach of behavioural standards. It’s hard to argue with a Hamas fanboy. My KKK ID number is the same as my KFC one. I get all the special deals!

Long before Oct 7th , 1000s of hostages, held by Zionist terrorists , terms and conditions, F Y , Israel has never honoured one of them, IOF has raped, Hamas has not in fact they have protected their hostages, just stop the bs and lies and tell us your KKK ID number. Disgusting, then again, we all know it.

Now now Art, remember the terms and conditions. Maybe if your death cult put down their arms and released the hostages that they haven’t raped and tortured and butchered it could all end. Try sobering up before you post next time.

First, I will never take the word of a racist hater, we all know who you are, second, I will take words of Nelson Mandela (he's a black man I know that bothers you) and Jimmy Carter he said,Hamas is for peace,Israel will never accept a 2 state solution. You have zero delusion only hatred against genocide lets be very very clear on that. Now here is where you show true ignorance I have been there recently, seen with my own eyes, you are a disgusting piece of S to support such atrocities

Sad to see the KKK in full force denying genocide. Humans, that is Jews, Muslims and Christians from this land lived in peace and harmony for generations until White KKK colonist Europeans who never set foot here before, decide they shall burn babies to steal someone else lands. Now you know what happens when you mix ignorance with hate.

Palestine is just the anglicised name of Philistia - the land of the Philistines (Gaza today). It’s not the name of an ancient dispossessed people or culture. Before you throw around terms like “apartheid” and “ethnic purge” try reading a history book and a dictionary.

hmmm I doubt a merge of any sort will ever be possible. More like a purge, but of which nation? There's no reasoning with leaders who do not value the deaths of innocent people.
Beaufort Avatar

Lin, it sure doesn't seem like it will happen. Yes, purge rather than merge (good word choice by you) Really too bad. A lot of innocent people will die and those left behind will be damaged for the rest of their lives. Amazing what hateful people do when they have power over others. Many examples of that in history for sure.
