The Poet's Choice
You tear yourself apart to fit the syllables.
You comb through Rhyme Zone for that certain word.
You think that now you have it all together.
But rat and cat began to sound absurd.
We are always thankful for the masters
who worked so well with structured poetry.
This century has now embraced the free verse.
The metaphors are dancing on a spree.
Its objective is to reach the other senses
with textures, sights and feelings very real.
In aiming to express, rhyme is abandoned.
It’s how and what you say that gives it zeal.
Free verse is a lot like abstract painting,
the meanings hidden deep within the art.
Yet as you see in this poem that is rhyming,
the structured form is still dear to the heart.
