The Picture
My Wife Snapped a Cute Little Picture,
of My Little Girl Dressed for War
She Said, "Please Keep in Mind,
What You Are Fighting For."
You Know How Much We Love You
and How Very Much You Care.
She Pointed to My Heart and Said,
"Please Keep Our Child There."
So I Went off to Vietnam,
My Spirits Dropping Down.
I Wondered How Long it Would Be
Before I Was Homeward Bound.
I Wasn't There for Too Long,
But the Fault Was All My Own.
I Just Made One Mistake
it Caused Them to Send Me Home.
My Wife Came to See Me First.
Her Eyes Were Brimming with Tears.
She Laid the Picture on My Breast,
and Turned to Face Some Lonely Years.
But I Shall Have Great Honor,
I Answered My Country's Call,
My Name Is Carved in Granite,
You Will Find it on the Wall.
