The Perils of Love
Emptying your heart of all emotions
makes you impervious to sudden storms.
And hiding behind your protective walls
shelters you from experiencing norms.
But betrayal cuts with a rusty edge;
dulling your appetite to chase rainbows.
And you trade a kaleidoscope of hopes;
for depression's achromatic shadows.
The truth invariably outlasts lies:
indomitable, as the sands of time.
And pools of bitter tears slowly gather,
as sadness fuels anxiety's climb.
Abandoned dreams get set adrift in time,
losing sight of their initial heading.
And it is scary, when you're all alone:
trying to stop the panic from spreading.
The perils of love devastate your heart:
while you cry on the shoulder of a friend.
Yet, you derive solace in the knowledge
that sometimes, relationships simply end.
