The Other Side
I've known lots of anger
And drank whiskey with grief
Though I lived close to danger
I always refused to believe
That hatred was my best friend
That's why I was so blind
The truth they'd always bend
About the other side
Heartache introduced herself
And with her sorrow came
They made my life a living hell
In every imaginable way
But I didn't know it then
Because that was everyday life
The truth rode past on the wind
And with it the other side
Every so often I heard people talking
About happiness, joy, and love
I laughed at them and kept on walking
Never knowing what it was
I never asked them questions
Because I thought it was a lie
That's just another reason
I missed the other side
Then one day I met you
Together we smiled and laughed
To me it was so new
And I wanted it to last
It took about a year
To chip away my pride
And let you bring me here
To the other side
Now I live my life
With love and happiness
And I realize
All I needed was a friend
Sitting with you here
I can tell you what it's like
To brush away the tears
And know the other side
