Notes About The Poem

The Other Door

I read in the paper today –
another religious occult.
Oxymoronic term, I thought,
but then don’t each intend to sway
the non-believers to their way?

So which is the righteous path?
Spiritual? Hysterical?
Are the two paradoxical?
Homo-empath? Psychopath?
Which is correct? Impart no wrath.

Faith is the answer I believe.
In my heart of hearts, I hold dear
a sparkling picture crystal clear –
the sturdy fabric of my weave.
Another course I can’t conceive.

And those who stray their center core,
I pray you find your way again
with straighter path than you began
and clearer focus seeking more
than walking through the other door.

NOTE: Inspired by "…remember that Jesus wants spiritual fruits, not religious nuts.” Quote from the book August Moon: Humor and Hijinks by Jess Lourey.

It's amazing to me how many religions turn into actual cults, particularly here in Utah, with the nutcase offshoots of Mormonism. Scientologists, and so many others. It's very sad that people can be brainwashed by such nonsense!

I agree Andrea. People need to think, investigate, learn, make wise choices.

"Faith is the answer I believe. In my heart of hearts, I hold dear"..... I too share your belief ! Faith in God can solve many of the present maladies..... not the fanatic and dogmatic faith, but faith in God and His goodness. Beautifully written Linda...

I love the light-hearted way this poem handles religious cultism. There seems to be a never-ending supply of it. The quote at the end is quite amusing and places everything in context. Be well always, Linda!

Isn't it a wonder how Native Americans managed to live such happy, productive lives without any religion or church? Aloha!

Native Americans recognise no two people share the same beliefs, so each is permitted to believe what best suits them rather than conform to someone else's beliefs! Aloha!

Native Americans follow a very spiritual life Rico. Most tribes do not have organized religion as we recognize such, but their religious ceremonies are intensely prayerful. IMHO, spirituality does not require a man-made place of worship, "church".

Jesus taught the populace about what God wants from us. They are written in the New Testaments. Any deviation is pure escape from faith.
