The Old School Yard

Children's laughter during recess, Jungle Gym, monkey bars, kick ball, all happened long ago on the old school yard. Playing marbles for keeps on our knees was a treat i looked foward to each time that old school bell would ring. Those class mates of ages past, wondering just now, as I hear children laughing at a near by school, where they are now, did they move on, or are they wondering about me the same way, will never know. I still wish I could do it again. We had so little materially but were rich beyond our dreams. I wouldn't trade our row home for a mansion. We had 17 kids in the first three homes. There was always something going on. Vince

I just finished watching a Documentary on Robert Collum, a teacher in the 60's who had an Awesome way of teaching kids. It was called a Touch of Greatness. Amazing classroom and playground footage. Please search it on youtube or Netflix or somewhere, JUST WATCH it! Any Poet will appreciate it! This poem you wrote is a nice continuation of the flick!

My poem that you commented on was along those lines. I tried to go back to find the past but it had disappeared. This one says it all. Love, Joyce

I can understand the nostalgia you feel when looking at the place where you and classmates used to play, James. There are times when I get a bit misty that my parochial grade school has just been razed. I wonder if the echo of children's laughter will remain at the site. Beautifully written poem that touches my heart. Love, Carolyn

thank you for reading and for your comment. yes that is sad when your old school gets torn down., the school that i went to from 3rd grade to 5th grade, and the one in 6th grade is still there. and that was 1952 to 1957.

Yes James, your memories certainly bring back a myriad of memories of my own in the old school yard. A great reminder of the good old days when we were not even aware that they were the good old days. very enjoyable

I went to my high school 50 year reunion That was fun, but just think of the surprise when going to a grade school 50 year reunion. I visited my old grade school one time and was surprised how small the whole thing was. In my memory it was huge! Enjoyed your write. Love Dave
