I confess that the zoological data supporting this limerick are limited, as the interaction between octopi and gerbils has rarely been observed in the wild. It is indicative of the intrepid nature of my research that I am able to bring this matter before the public.

The octopus sometimes forgets Its suckers when gerbils it pets. It sticks to its arm, Then falls, to some harm, Which both of them deeply regrets.
