The October Moon

a midnight surf wet, wild and cold - the October moon wolf’s fiery eyes a blood red - howls to be fed at the mercy of the pike - scarecrow in the corn sable kitten opens one sleepy eye - they’re afraid of him? purrs peacefully in his black silk coat - laps at moon’s milk the homeless gourds in shadowed patch - wait to be sold cut, scooped, top lobbed off a fiery flame - angry with pain school kids bob - sink their teeth into surface of apples red flesh, white moon sweaters and coats hayride and bonfire 10/3/2022
