The Note

His parents out to dinner, Henry got a little sad. He wanted to be tucked in bed By no one but his dad. To comfort him, I had a thought – A message I would write To tell his dad, when he got home, To kiss his boy good night. But Henry said, “No, Nana; By myself I’ll write the note!” With spelling help and neatly printed, This is what he wrote: “Daddy, please come snuggle me,” And then he signed his name. I promised that his father Wouldn’t miss it when he came. He drifted off; his dad lit up When reading Henry’s plea. He followed through, though Henry slept, But wouldn’t you agree… How sweet and touching is this tale? For children, as they grow, Expand the possibilities Of how their love may show.

Just so precious. A few tears fell from your reader's (my) eyes viewing this one. So glad that you can enjoy Henry! Don't you sometimes wish that you could bottle him right at the stage where he is now and keep him there forever? --- Of course, that would be so unhealthy and cruel. ~ Gershon

Very lovely and sweet, Ilene. Though I never received a note like this one, I received many other little ones from my children which I treasure and keep in my drawer; to these I'm now also adding those from my g'daughter! Regards // paul

Ilene, this poem grabbed my heart and made her smile and shed a little tear at the innocent plea of a child who needed his daddy to snuggle him. This is beautiful, my friend. Thank you for writing it.
