the nights the lights went out

A terrorizing bang had my heart take a giant gulp. I sat for a second, waiting for the next bang. Is the word ending? I ran outside to see All the lights in the neighborhood went out With a whistle and a whizzing sound We saw them flip off all at once It was dark now, no stars or street lights What would happen next? I expected stormtroopers to march up to me I figured we would all be shot in the dark No witnesses because none of us could see anything There was a bit of rain, but it was not loud any more. Sat in a porch chair, feeling alone and compromised. We did not have electricity for four hours. Discovered later that lightning had struck a transformer.
