I thought the dust had settled over what used to be 'us' but today I found a picture and heard echoes of your voice your footsteps in the hall and then it stopped... you'd fallen, from choice and I kept walking leaving the memory of 'me and you' It returned, unwanted, unbidden after being hidden for years bitter words spoken in haste laying waste to love verbal wars were lethal weapons thrown in bloody battle and then it stopped... because I left, but scars remain grave markers of 'me and you' We've both moved on but I still feel you near in the notes of songs about a love gone wrong I tore them from my heart and then it stopped... but they left me blue still playing in my mind an unfinished aria of 'me and you' Sometimes I wake and reach across the bed then hang my head, bite my lip And taste salt upon my fingertip I walk the hall, crying and then it stops... when I remember why I left relive what you'd done to fracture the memory of 'me and you' ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: June 27th 2017 And then it stopped contest sponsored by John Lawless

Soo sad but at least what comes out of sadness is great writing, I know it's no consolation but your words may be a catharsis of sorts, and may even help others to cope, another worthy winner Lin!

OMG this is fantastic Lin! It should also be classified in First place. It is so indicative of sadness that holds on throughout our lives when love goes wrong. A FAVE! Congratulations! I hope you share this wonderful poem with PFT members. I know they would love it too! Hugs, Connie

emotionally raw, straight bare in its exposure of pain, a lot of strength in its revealing as memories can be quite cold and painful when they flood the mind without notice...congratulations on your win

Lin, the last line of each stanza echoes with the stabbing pain of memory's wounds -unhealed. A very well structured and well written poem. Thanks for entering the contest.

I can hear the words, have worn out a carpet myself, walking the halls, and the image you choose, matches the poem so well! Beautiful poem.

It's long past time we either replace the carpet or find better halls in which to tread. Thank you, Arthur. ;-)

Beautiful truths this poem bespeak, Lin. Most everyone can relate to this poem in some fashion. As for myself, I'm twenty years removed from "Me and You." I thank God for Him helping me move past the hurt. We hurt each other ... so the pain went both ways. Nowadays, I only remember the loving moments. This makes me smile, like your poem did. Ty for sharing this gem of a poem, dear friend. Love always.

Thank you very much, Heidi. Each time I read it, I get goosebumps after the last verse. I should stop the torture of doing that, right? We really are our worst enemy.

Oh Lin this is a tearjerker of a poem that I guess many people can relate to after a relationship has ended, a photograph, a song, a place can evoke such powerful often sad memories :-( Good luck in the contest:-) hugs jan xx
