The Man Who Chose To Be Poor

There once was a man who had no legs. He scratched out a living shining other men's shoes. For a little extra change he would sing you the blues. There once was a man who had no arms, who could hold your attention with a soft shoe dance. You had to slip his tip in the pockets of his pants. There once was a man who could not see, who had learned to play the piano by ear. He was valued for the lovely music you would hear. There once was a man perfectly fit, who lived like a beggar til the day that he died. His only disability, he just never tried. 12/28/18

Bravo, Wren, for your top win. Money does bring so many troubles that it is easy to understand why someone would choose to be poor. I would love to walk in the shoes (or sandals) of a monk for a day... I might never want to go back to my old life.

I enjoyed reading the stories in your poem Wren..people compensating for their disabilities is quite real life. The last stanza is quite funny..also real life.. as truly some never try.
