The Long Wait
It was such a rare anticipation,
and all her friends were going.
Mama finally gave permission
for exciting midnight showing.
She said she’d purchase tickets
for the two of them to go.
“There’s no way you’ll go alone
to any midnight picture show.”
The wait had been tremendous,
but now the time is here.
They are seated in selected seats
when awaited scenes appear.
She doesn’t see the side door opening,
she wants to capture every word.
For her the waiting is all over
when the first loud shots are heard.
